WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA), a senior House Democrat and leading voice in the push for stronger Congressional oversight of U.S. military engagement abroad, released the following statement on today’s announcement by President Obama on Afghanistan. “Today, the longest war in American history just got longer. You may have heard that Amherst has a lot of meetings. Currently, Amherst Media provides gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Select Board, Planning Board, School Committee, Regional School Committee, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting on an ongoing basis as well as many community forums and other committees. During the summer months we have far fewer interns and our staff is stretched further, which means that it's even harder to maintain coverage of existing committees, let alone new additions.
