Ron Fortunato at Amherst Media

Makers @ Amherst Media recently hosted Ron Fortunato, president of Trillium Learning and a NASA Space Ambassador for the United States, in our studios. He gave a presentation on a teaching program he calls "A World Bridge" where teams of students take on team-based learning, flipped, service learning, problem-centered projects that involve "open science" and "making."  We are currently showing the video on channel 15 and it is available to stream on our website as part of the ongoing Makers @ Amherst Media series.

Produced and hosted by Amber Krasinski, an Amherst Media intern and recent Hampshire College graduate, "The Quiz @ Amherst Media" is a program where the audience can have as much fun as the contestants. The show is a humorous, buzz-in style quiz show with categories ranging from dinosaurs to '90s female pop stars to cat facts and 20th century slang. So far three episodes have been produced and we are always looking for new contestants.

North Pleasant Street will be dedicated to pedestrian traffic this Thursday from 5-9pm as the Amherst Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) hosts the annual Celebrate Amherst Block Party. The Block party will feature three stages of music, food and craft vendors, booth from local businesses and non-profits, jugglers, yo-yo masters, games, a dunk booth and much more!

Lisa Aronson Fontes, PhD an author and Senior Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst has a new book titled Invisible Chains: Overcoming Coercive Control in Your Intimate Relationship. Throughout the course of the book Dr. Fontes covers the many stages and forms of coercive control as well as tips on how to recognize that you or someone you know may be in a controlling relationship and how to get out.

Amherst Media is proud to have produced a fundraising campaign video for Urban Light, an organization that empowers boys who are victims of human trafficking and exploitation in Thailand.  One of our former interns, Fiona Servaes, who has been working with Urban Lights, came in to ask for our assistance in helping to launch the on-line fundraiser.  Fiona worked with Ari Hayes, our Director of Production to create the video appeal

As we move into the fall, we have officially completed a full year of our archiving project.  During the past year, we’ve had a number of interns helping us capture tapes and have captured almost 1500 tapes to date!  This is roughly half of the tapes we have in the archive room.  As we fill up hard drives with the digitized files, we are making them available via Archive.org on a special Amherst Media Archives account.
