Apr 14, 2015 has recently recognized UMass professors Dr. Whitney Battle-Baptiste and Dr. Demetria Shabazz as “Women Who Lead By Example” in Massachusetts. This Springfield based media organization provides diversity-oriented news and made a special issue dedicated to honoring these women. The honorees were selected based on their apparent leadership in their respective fields along with leadership demonstrated in all aspects of life and community involvement.

Mount Holyoke College President, Dr. Lynn Pasquerella taped her most recent episode of Difficult Dialogues this past week in which she and her guests focused on end of life care and its role on the local and national level. In studio with Dr. Pasquerella were Dr. Jeffrey Zesiger, Medical Director of Palliative Care at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Laurie Loisel, an editor and reporter at the Daily Hampshire Gazette who penned a three part story of how Northampton resident Lee Hawkins planned her own death.

17th Annual Eqbal Amhad Lecture

Hampshire College presents the 17th annual Eqbal Ahmad Lecture featuring co-founders of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi.  The talk is free to the public and will be held Monday, March 30th at 4 PM in the Robert Crown Center at Hampshire College.  The lecture series commemorates the teaching, scholarship, and activism of the late Eqbal Amhad, whom was an honored Hampshire College professor.
