Amherst Rotary Club Auction

Amherst Media welcomes the Amherst Rotary Club to our studios again for the 8th Annual Rotary Club Auction. The auction will be broadcast live on Friday, November 13th from 6pm-9pm and continuing on Saturday from 12pm-9pm. Programming on channel 12 is shifting to channel 15 starting at 5 pm on Friday until 10 pm on Saturday.

This year the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce handed out A+ Awards to six local businesses, people, and organizations. Amherst Media produced videos for five of the awardees, which you can watch online.
Amherst Public Art

The Amherst Public Art Commission has announced the launch of an online tour guide of all the art venues and public art in Amherst. This can be found at www.amherstma.gov/ArtTour. This guide is mobile friendly, contains descriptions of each art venue or artwork, can be accessed via smart phone or tablet to be used on the go, and is GPS-integrated.

On October 21, Kenyan author Binyavanga Wainaina sat to converse with Amherst College Profesors, Marisa Parham and Khary Polk at the college’s new Center for Humanistic Inquiry.  The discussion focused on subjects of globalism, sexuality, local identities and new African writing, in terms of bringing these ideas to light, digitally.  Wainaina is known for using social media along with various other digital approaches to develop and spread new African writing. The Kenyan author, publisher and cultural worker was named one of the most influential people in the worl

Congressman James McGovern

On Wednesday, October 14, 2015, Congressman James McGovern, along with others, spoke at a University of Massachusetts Amherst forum that focused on the issue of excessive student debt and the “crisis of affordability” for higher education.  McGovern explains that any short-term changes to this concern would have more potential at state level, rather than at federal level.

The second annual NERD Summit was held at UMass September 11-13. The tech and web development conference was free to attend and featured three days of workshops, trainings, presentations, youth activities and more. Highlighting the event were two keynotes: Becky Wai-Ling Packard of Mount Holyoke College and Jen Lampton, a lead developer on the Drupal fork Backdrop. Amherst Media staff filmed and edited the keynote presentations and panel discussions as well as overseeing the live stream and capture of session presentations.
