Shelter Sunday is a one-day fundraising effort held on the third Sunday in October–on the 18th this year–with the goal of reducing hunger and homelessness in the region. The beneficiaries this year include Craig's Doors and Not Bread Alone.
In an interview with Scott Merzbach for the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Craig's Doors Executive Director Robekah Wilder expects up to 300 volunteers from UMass students and local community service groups to canvass residential streets in Amherst. The event usually collects between $25,000 and $35,000, with about half raised during the door-to-door campaign, and the remainder collected afterward as people mail in donations." according to the article.
