In this week's segment of "Byline with Stan Rosenberg," at 8 p.m. on Channel 17, Rosenberg interviews Amherst Town Council Chair Alisa Brewer and Vice Chair Cathy Schoen about the work of the Rules of Procedure Ad Hoc Committee, https://www.amherstma.gov/3472/Rules-of-Procedure which ended on May 21.
Their committee was charged with codifying operating procedures for the new Town Council, including developing a values statement setting forward how the Council will engage with the public and one another.
The Rules of Procedure Ad Hoc Committee also included Councilors Mandi Jo Hanneke, Shalini Bahl-Milne, and Darcy Dumont. While the committee was unanimous on certain points, discussion over the last several months also yielded differences of opinion.
The committee's final statement, which councilors called a "compromise" document, was adopted by the Town Council. The "living document" can be amended by a majority vote of the council, and will be posted to the town's website shortly, Brewer and Schoen said. A draft document is here: https://www.amherstma.gov/…/7a-Full-Draft-ROP-V8-revised-51…
The committee's remaining unresolved issues have been referred to Governance, Organization and Legislative Committee, which Hanneke chairs.
